This a great post! I'm a state of California certified massage therapist, and I work for the Massage Envy chain at a location in Beverly Hills.

I left a higher paying position near my home (in a chiropractor's office) to work at Massage Envy due to severe burnout. Having already experienced burnout, I know what to do when the symptoms start creeping up on me.

There are times in my MT journey that have been neither easy nor pleasant but the fact that my clients always tell me how much better they feel, or tell me that they appreciate my skill. Or that, when they are in pain, all they can think about is coming to see me for pain relief. This makes all the negative experiences seem worthwhile.

I'm glad I followed my intuition when I got the nudge to go into massage therapy. It turned out to be the right thing for me in more ways than one.

Thank you for your kind comments..I think of it as my responsibility to address the concerns of the new therapist as well as the experienced. We are all continually learning and fine tuning our skills and the good of the client is what is important.

What a great piece (or full serving) of advice for recent graduates. Congratulations on having received such impressive academic achievements, especially with the pressure that having a family can bring upon some people (didn't hold you back at all, it appears). I really like mentions of the 'pit stop' and/or 'stool' when you speak of reaching for the stars--great imagery.
