Sports Massage is a wonderful modality. It is a more invigorating massage than Swedish or Rieki. The therapist must be capable of positioning the client for stretching and deep tissue movements. Therapist who are in the smaller frame category can use some wonderful tricks to accomplish a good Sports Massage.
Lowering the table is top priority. This gives you that wonderful leverage to perform the perfect amount of pressure for your client. Bolsters can really help support the client during stretches, using bolsters instead of holding up that athletic leg for 3 to 4 minutes can save you energy and protect you from injury.
This modality is only for clients who can handle all that sports massage has to offer. Preferably I would rather perform this modality on someone who has received sports massage in the past.
Being in the sports massage field can be very exciting, rewarding and profitable. The potential for travel is good too.
Clients who have received sports massage are requiring a different level therapy than the average client. The therapist who can perform to this level could make a wonderful living and have a client base that is secure.
